Undiscovered and Unspoilt - An Introduction

This blog aims to explore chosen popular aspects of culture, imagery and diversely related media and observe how these can connect and intertwine across time to inspire new concepts or creative pathways for the future.
The focus will be on researching and mixing simple themes which can lead to the development of innovative ideas expressed through the media of games and other interactive tools .

My research will fall into 3 categories:

Present: How is this subject culturally relevant? How is the subject presented across media? What are the views of society, have they changed over time and are the perceptions correct/influenced by other cultural trends?
Past: How has this subject been portrayed through media and culture and how have views changed?
Horizon: What does the Future hold for this subject? Are there any plans or relevant cultural/ media associations on the Horizon?

My Chosen Themes:

Exploration:
The environment generally is high on our cultural agenda, and most environment issues revolve around our use of consumables, the exploitation of this planets resources and the susequent damage and waste we leave behind. There are few places left on the planet that have been truly unexplored or unspoilt and of those few, there is much debate as to whether we should leave them be, preserve them, explore them or even exploit them. There are potential benefits to medicine and other sciences, consumable resources and even tourism, but do we have a right to exploit them when the cost and damage to these environments and their populations is irreversible? The pertinent issues surrounding these few places goes to the heart of todays environmental concerns.
I will look at our fascination with "Exploring" uncharted places and how it has been expressed and developed in the past and then I will scan the Horizon to see what the Future holds for exploration and protection of these places and if culturally and through the media there is a future interest.
Alien Species:
The second topic of my research WAS 'Alien Species" and how these can, have and will be depicted in many forms throughout media. After my initial start I have decided that this subject is too closely related to my above topic and so I intend to merge the 2.

Mushrooms:
This is my new topic - I have always been fascinated with Mushrooms and Fungi and so I feel this will be an interesting topic to explore. Once again I will explore the present, past and horizon, with a view to identifying aspects which could be considered popular areas of interest and may contribute in part towards a feasible Intellectual property.
